The Cowes Yachty

Pete Clarke added a comment to one of my posts on Facebook, so here it is:

I’ve made a lot of money and I’ve bought myself a yacht
After several sailing lessons I’ve learned to tie a knot.
My Clothes are Henri- Lloyd on my hat there is an anchor.
I sometimes hear the people say, here comes that silly (B)anker.
In the Duke of York I can brag and boast, drink Pimms and eat a Sunday roast.
Whilst the waitress with a big top deck admires the gold around my neck.
Apparent wind is a yachting term but not the one I’m thinking.
I thought it was a condition people get when they know the yacht is sinking.
I feel like Long John Silver I’m sailing on the tide.
My wife keeps drinking whisky, she seems nervous by my side.
It’s quite a windy morning in the wind it’s hard to see.
I think that there’s a ferry boat and she’s sailing straight at me.
The Captain He’s a show off he likes to blow his horn.
He’s a friendly chap I can see him wave on such a misty morn.
He’s pointing to some red lights that are bobbing up and down.
Oh look! There’s another one, in fact they’re all around.
It’s funny how we seem so small when something big goes by.
The wife seems thrilled by all of this the excitements made her cry.
I’ll enter the race around the Island and win it if I can.
I’ve been asked to keep on sailing till I reach the Isle of Man.
The Pandemics not been easy, Island people feel the strain
of a useless river ferry that the locals call the chain.
There’s a lot of pubs and restaurants for people just like me
who own a yacht and talk a lot but know nothing of the sea.
An old sea salt once told me there are somethings you can’t buy.
To know when to seek shelter by the actions of the sky.
If you’ve got a lot of money you can buy a yacht or boat.
The sea can be unpredictable no place to act the goat.
